A lot has happened over the past year. Like many service providers, in-person JOGA work essentially dried up and my business became virtual with all its technological warts and worries. It was a steep learning curve but we moved fast to accommodate and it has become our new normal. It has become a great way to connect and deliver services to people near and far. In retrospect, virtual training has turned out better than I thought but I do miss personal connections and hoping we can return to in-person delivery of services soon. Virtual will stay as one of the delivery models, I'm just not sure in what capacity yet. With my new spare time not attending sporting events and traveling, I spent the year going down rabbit holes, learning, studying, and educating myself in areas I thought would be beneficial additions to my knowledge base for clients. This year has also allowed the opportunity to bring a new look to our website and branding to reflect the changes we’ve made. Rabbit Hole #1 - Is it lack of flexibility, stability, mobility, or all of the above? When I see compensatory patterns of movement, is it lack of knowledge of our own bodies or is it lack of CONTROL of our own bodies? I went back to educating myself for others and became certified as a Mobility Specialist with a program called Functional Range Conditioning. FRC Mobility training and practice allows us to deep dive into compensation patterns and weaknesses that limit our daily movement and athletic performance. FRC mobility training has been added to the list of services and can be booked as private sessions. or provided as a group session. FRC mobility work can also be found in our 5-Week Ignition Series program, as well as in our hybrid sessions. In as little as 5 minutes a day, we can keep our joints healthy! Rabbit Hole #2 - Do poor breathing patterns create stress and lack of movement or does lack of movement and stress create poor breathing patterns? Nothing like a pandemic to bring stress and worry to a whole other level. Clients, and myself included, felt like we were bracing for the unknown. People were becoming more aware of their feelings of stress and felt stuck in fight or flight nervous system response. I’d experienced this heightened stress response before, except I was on a mountain in Africa having a late night panic attack at 15,600 ft. It was that experience that made me want to KNOW more for myself as well as for those that I serve. Even though breathwork is an integral piece of the JOGA programming, comments about wanting more breathwork started to creep into our work. I once again educated myself for others and became a certified Breathwork Coach. Breathwork is more than just breathing. It’s an understanding that our breath is emotional, physiological and mechanical! With a breathwork practice, you don’t need to be a meditation master to feel the results right from your very first session. Breathwork training has been added to the list of services and can be booked as private sessions or delivered in a group format. Breathwork can also be found in our 5-Week Ignition Series program. Simple tools to help you in your daily work, practice or competition! With all the changes and additions to programming, its seemed fitting to make updates to the website! Our logo reflects our new direction. The design and colour reflect a stronger and bolder presence. Think of it as being stronger in all programming areas that we deliver. We’ve made changes to our tag line to reflect our focus. Fitness. Performance. Recovery. All SELFignition programming can help YOU in your fitness journey.
